Representatives of Esteghlal Club attended a meeting hosted by the Embassy of Uruguay, with the presence of the head of the Football Federation.
According to the official website of Esteghlal Club, in a meeting initiated by the Uruguayan Ambassador to Iran and coordinated with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, a group of ambassadors from South American countries, the ambassadors of Senegal and Vietnam, officials of the Football Federation, and representatives of Esteghlal Club were guests of the Uruguayan Embassy.
In this event, Mehdi Taj, the head of the Iran Football Federation, and Mehdi Mohammad Nabi, the vice-president of the Federation, were also present. Additionally, a group of sponsors, including the head of the Uruguay-Iran Friendship Center, attended the ceremony.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Beraldo Nicola, the Uruguayan Ambassador, welcomed the attendees and emphasized his country's interest in expanding sports and cultural interactions with Iran. He considered the holding of this meeting with the presence of a group of South American ambassadors as an important step towards strengthening joint cooperation. He also stated that among Iranian clubs, only representatives of Esteghlal had been invited to this event.
Furthermore, Mehdi Taj, referring to the football capacities of the two countries, expressed hope that the national teams of Iran and Uruguay would have successful performances in upcoming international competitions and that interactions between the two countries in the field of football would develop further. He emphasized the role of such meetings in strengthening sports and international relations.
In another part of the ceremony, the jerseys of the Iranian and Uruguayan national teams were exchanged between the head of the Iran Football Federation and the Uruguayan Ambassador as a symbol of friendship and mutual cooperation.
Also, Abbas Torabian, the head of the Esteghlal Club Football Organization, attended the ceremony and presented an official Esteghlal Club jersey to the Uruguayan Ambassador. Esteghlal Club had also prepared commemorative packages for the attending ambassadors, which were presented to them.
On the sidelines of the event, Torabian, referring to the international approach of Esteghlal Club, announced plans for organizing international tournaments, especially with South American countries, and expressed hope that these interactions would lead to the development of technical cooperation, holding joint matches, and strengthening sports relations at various levels.
In this ceremony, a group of Esteghlal Club veterans, including Shahrokh Bayani, Hassan Roshan, Kazem Oliaei, and Farideh Shojaei, were also among the guests of the Uruguayan Embassy.
Esteghlal Club, in line with expanding sports diplomacy and international interactions, has placed the development of cooperation with various countries on its agenda and considers this meeting a favorable starting point for implementing future joint programs.
